The ghost town sit-at-home order by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Monday (today) got bloody in Nnewi as two people have reportedly died in an alleged confrontation between the Army and suspected members of the IPOB. According to an eyewitness account, the confrontation occurred at the Izuchukwu junction area of the roundabout in the industrial town and the two people who are reported to have died include a leader of Eastern Security Network (ESN) and a commercial motorcyclist. THE AUTHORITY, an online news platform, claimed that the incident started around 7.00 am in the morning when some members of IPOB came out to enforce the sit-at-home order and in the process barricaded the major roads in Nnewi, an industrial town in Anambra State. A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Precious Oluwasanya Foundation, on Monday flagged off the construction of two blocks of 500-capacity accommodation for inmates of Kirikiri Medium Prisons, Lagos. The News Agency of Nigeria quoted the NGO as saying that the twin two-storey building, which will also have a library for use by inmates determined to further their education in prison, will be completed within three months. Speaking at the foundation laying ceremony, Bunmi Alabi, representative of the foundation, said the project was embarked upon to encourage inmates who had given up on life while in the prison. THE people of Abraka Kingdom, Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State, yesterday, cried out that they were under siege by rampaging Fulani herdsmen. 

An official of EKEDC has said that there is not transformer apportioned to KIRIKIRI town by the Local Council in their custody at their office. The official in a conversation with KIRIKIRI News media said that the office is not aware that the transformer sitting at Shokumbi street is no longer there. In a concerned bid to arrest the situation, The official directed the community to question the Local council authorities concerning the Transformers which was given to the community and who they were handed over to inside the community. This missing transformer has kept some families in darkness as the load which causes trip off is too heavy for the transformer sitting at Otun Street Junction. More details later….. Officials of the Federal Fire Service, FFS, Wuse Zonal office, Monday, successfully subdued inferno that almost razed down the Wuse 2 Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The fire fighters led by the Sector Commander, Melone Onyekachi, arrived the Wuse 2 office of the Commission when the Service was alerted of the fire by the Incident Duty Officer of the Commission, Kayode Oyetunde, at 1910 hours. The fire started at the former newsroom which now serves as storage for ICT equipments that were retrieved from the commission’s former offices scattered across the capital city. The former newsroom is domiciled in the two-storey Costa Hall which was commissioned by Antonio Costa on November 13, 2007. Nigerians living in the U.S. have converged on New Jersey to celebrate the 12th Annual Nigerian Sports and Cultural Carnival organized by the Nigerian Sports and Cultural Organization. By Jerrywright Ukwu Electricity consumers ​not provided with prepaid meters ​as at​ March 1 2017 have been told to stop paying electricity bills -  This is the directive from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) The Distribution Companies (DISCOs) have however fired back saying the rule is not applicable to all Nigerians The NERC has ​declared that electricity consumers ​that were ​not provided with prepaid meters ​as at​ March 1 should stop paying electricity bills presented by DISCOs on the basis of estimated billing methodology. The commission also ordered the DISCOs not to disconnect any such customer that refuses to pay the bills and further advised such customers to report to the commission if disconnected. The NERC said​ the new directive is in line with its mandate of protecting the rights of customers.
