MAN KILLS HIMSELF AND HIS WIFE AT GOMOA NYAMEBEKYRE COMMUNITY, GHANA

A 35-year-old farmer/hunter has killed his wife and also shot himself to death with a single barrel gun at Gomoa Nyamebekyere near Gomoa Dominase in the Gomoa East district of the Central region.

A unit committee member in the area who confirmed the unfortunate incident to mynewsgh.com said the two after dinner went to bed only for news of their death of the two with the gun at the scene on Monday morning .

“It is believed that the man shot the women on the chest and later shot himself. We rushed to the scene this morning and took the woman to the Winneba hospital but she was pronounced dead on arrival”, he said

According to him, information as to what triggered the husband to commit the act is sketchy but disclosed that police in the area have since commenced investigations into the matter.

A family member Gifty Annan said she was attracted to the sounds of gunshots and rushed to their room only to be greeted with the gory scene and raised an alarm attracting other tenants in the house.

FG SET TO BAN SALE OF ALCOHOL IN SMALL BOTTLES AND SACHET - SEE WHY

The Federal Government has issued directives targeted at phasing out the sale and consumption of alcohol in sachets and polyethylene terephthalate, PET, bottles. The goal is to reduce availability and curb abuse. Effective January 31 2021, producers of alcohol in sachets and small bottles are to reduce production by 50 per cent of capacity prior to January 2020. Mojisola Adeyeye, director-general of the National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, disclosed this in a statement. Adeyeye said uncontrolled access and availability of high concentration alcohol in sachet and small volume PET or glass bottles contribute to substance and alcohol abuse in Nigeria. She added that NAFDAC and the ministry of health have engaged major shareholders and have reached certain agreements.
