Residents of Iba Community have been implored to put to good use the newly rehabilitated Primary Health Care [PHC] centre in the area and also ensure its full utilization.
Speaking at the formal handing-over and commissioning of the newly rehabilitated Iba Primary Health Care centre in Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode highlighted his administration’s objectives to develop flagship Primary Healthcare Centres across the nooks and crannies of the State.
Governor Ambode, represented at the event by the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Akinyemi Ashade, assured residents of the area that his resolve remains making PHCs the first port of call for medical emergencies and improvement of the entire healthcare system by bringing its services closer to residents in hinterlands.
According to him, “We want to redirect citizens to the Primary Healthcare centres to reduce pressure on the secondary and tertiary facilities; in doing this, we want to ensure that quality medical care to any resident of the State is not compromised irrespective of social status, gender or religious belief.”
While congratulating the residents of Iba community for being beneficiaries of the collaborative effort between the Federal and State Government under the Conditional Grant Scheme, Ambode explained that the scheme was borne out of the Debt Relief Gain (DRG) granted to Nigerians by Paris Club and associated nations in the year 2016.
He maintained that the essence of the projects was specifically targeted at the attainment of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), adding that the State government has specifically focused on providing access to quality healthcare through the upgrade of existing PHCs to flagship status.
