AMAHOR COMMUNITY WATER-SIDE WHERE TWO RIVERS MEET WAS VISITED BY EDO GOVERNOR

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state has visited the Amahor waterside to ascertain the tourism viability of two rivers which formed a confluence at Amahor town in Igueben Local Government Area of the state.

During the tour around the water-side, located inside a forest reserve, the governor visited a rest house used by colonial masters when they visited the water-side and rain forest years ago.

The governor said that the area, when developed, would boost economic activities and draw tourist attraction to view the natural wonder of the rivers that do not mix.
‘We are trying to identify economic opportunities and also the land marks we have for economic activities such as that for tourism and agricultural production.

‘We understand that we have a lot of land marks and space here. 
Most importantly, we came here to appreciate nature and begin to direct interest to places like this so that people can come here for relaxation and to appreciate nature,’’ he said.

MAN SMUGGLES INDIAN HEMP TO BROTHER INSIDE KIRIKIRI PRISON

A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Friday, sentenced 24 year-old-man, Patrick Amadi to two years in prison for smuggling marijuana into kirikiri prison. Amadi was charged by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on one count of drug trafficking. Justice Ayotunde Faji sentenced Amadi after he pleaded guilty and begged the court to temper justice with mercy and promised not to engage in crime again. Justice Faji said the prison term should begin from the date of his arrest and admonished him to use the jail period to turn a new leaf and become a better person. Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, told the court that the accused was arrested on June 18 at the Kirikiri Maximum Prison in Lagos with 200 grammes of the narcotics. Aernan said Amadi was caught with the substance in his sandals, which he planned to hand over to his brother, whom he went to visit. "PRISON OFFICERS EXTORT MONEY FROM US AT THE TRAINING SCHOOL" - TRAINEES

By Stella Iyaji, Joshua Odeyemi (Abuja) & Eugene Agha Officers of the Nigeria Prison Service undergoing a training programme at its institution in Kirikiri Town, Lagos, have accused officials of the school of extortion in the guise of providing them with uniforms. About 408 personnel of the rank of Chief Superintendent of Prisons, drawn from commands across the country, are participating in a three-month course on development at the institution, Daily Trust on Sunday gathered. The programme is due to be concluded on November 15, it was gathered. Participants, however, alleged that the school had forced each of them to pay N37000 for ceremonial dress, belts and caps, items they claimed to posses.
