COMMUNITIES IN DELTA STATE, NIGERIA PROTEST MILITARIZATION AND MARGINALIZATION

Communities in Burutu Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State on Wednesday protested militarization and marginalisation of their communities.
Demanding that Hydro-Drive, the company contracted to clear the oil spill should vacate their communities so that local contractors from their community can handle the project.

As at the time of filing in this report, there is an ongoing protest at the headquarters of Hydro-Drive on 17, Wharf Road, Apapa, Lagos.

NO ELECTRICITY IN IJE-ODODO COMMUNITY FOR 10 MONTHS - RESIDENTS PROTEST

By Jesutomi Akomolafe Aggrieved residents of Oba Ogo Community Development Association (CDA), Ije-ododo in Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State yesterday morning stormed the Oshodi district office of Ikeja Electric, Okota to protest estimated billing despite 10 months of power outage due to spoilt transformer. Leading the residents who carried placards expressing their frustrations was the secretary of the CDA, Mr Olufemi Onasanya, who said for nearly a year, they have suffered in darkness. “Our transformer was taken away since November last year for repairs and was returned to us last month. Ikeja Electric has refused to energise the community after meeting their agreement of 1+1. FG SET TO BAN SALE OF ALCOHOL IN SMALL BOTTLES AND SACHET - SEE WHY

The Federal Government has issued directives targeted at phasing out the sale and consumption of alcohol in sachets and polyethylene terephthalate, PET, bottles. The goal is to reduce availability and curb abuse. Effective January 31 2021, producers of alcohol in sachets and small bottles are to reduce production by 50 per cent of capacity prior to January 2020. Mojisola Adeyeye, director-general of the National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, disclosed this in a statement. Adeyeye said uncontrolled access and availability of high concentration alcohol in sachet and small volume PET or glass bottles contribute to substance and alcohol abuse in Nigeria. She added that NAFDAC and the ministry of health have engaged major shareholders and have reached certain agreements.
