COMMUNITIES IN DELTA STATE, NIGERIA PROTEST MILITARIZATION AND MARGINALIZATION

Communities in Burutu Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State on Wednesday protested militarization and marginalisation of their communities.
Demanding that Hydro-Drive, the company contracted to clear the oil spill should vacate their communities so that local contractors from their community can handle the project.

As at the time of filing in this report, there is an ongoing protest at the headquarters of Hydro-Drive on 17, Wharf Road, Apapa, Lagos.

20 LOCAL GOVERNMENTS CELEBRATE COMMUNITY DAY - LAGOS AT 50

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Saturday graced the Lagos @ 50 Community Day and Carnival Celebrations, assuring that his administration will continue to run an all inclusive government where all Lagosians can have and feel a sense of belonging regardless of party affiliation, creed or colour. HIGH SUICIDE RATE: GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE TO GET PREVENTION NET INSTALLED

By Madeline Holcombe, CNN The Golden Gate Bridge has a problem: horrifyingly high suicide rates. The community has a solution: a net covering the perimeter of the bridge. It sounds like a simple response to a complex problem, but the barrier is a big task. In May, crews will begin to erect fencing along the approaches and tower legs, but that deterrent is only temporary. From there, workers will take careful measurements to begin installing a net that extends 20 feet out along both sides of the 1.7 mile long bridge. The installation will begin in 2018 and the Golden Gate Bridge, Transportation and Highway District expects construction to be completed in 2021. And this isn't your average net. It will be constructed from stainless steel -- light enough to be inconspicuous, but strong enough to save lives. The Army troops have confirmed readiness for any form of clash between the two factions of the Owode-Ijere Youth Forum [CDA2 Youths] saying that such acts will not be tolerated.
