COMMUNITIES IN DELTA STATE, NIGERIA PROTEST MILITARIZATION AND MARGINALIZATION

Communities in Burutu Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State on Wednesday protested militarization and marginalisation of their communities.
Demanding that Hydro-Drive, the company contracted to clear the oil spill should vacate their communities so that local contractors from their community can handle the project.

As at the time of filing in this report, there is an ongoing protest at the headquarters of Hydro-Drive on 17, Wharf Road, Apapa, Lagos.

7 STUDENTS AND ONE TEACHER KIDNAPPED IN DAMBO-KASAYA COMMUNITY

By Ibrahim Mohammed Armed men on Monday attacked a school in Kaduna, killing one person and kidnapping seven students and a teacher, residents said. The armed men killed a man and abducted seven students and a teacher of Prince Academy, located at Damba-Kasaya village in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The incident happened around 8 a.m. on Monday when the gunmen stormed the rural community while the students were preparing for their Junior secondary school examination‎. It gathered that the abducted students are JSS3 students who were among the exit students asked to resume by the federal and state government. ABULEADO, a sleepy community in Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos State has been hit by uneasy calm since the disappearance of a two-year-old girl, Chinaza Agwa from her parents’ bedside on March 6. LALONG VISITS VICTIMS OF JOS VIOLENCE

By Seriki Adinoyi Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong on Monday, in the company of his deputy, Professor Sonni Tyoden, and Head of Security agencies in the state, DIG Sanusi Lemu, visited victims of recent Jos violence in some hospitals in the city. DRUG TRAFFICKING: SUSPECT NABBED WITH 106 PARCELS OF HEMP & 4 PASSPORTS

A suspected cannabis trafficker, Mr. Sylvester Gbenga has been arrested by the Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS. Gbenga was arrested at Gbaji Customs checkpoint along Lagos-Badagry expressway on Wednesday and handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, yesterday. In a statement by the Customs Public Relations Officer, PRO of the Command, Taupyen Selchang, the suspect was arrested with about 106 parcels of hemp. The statement said, “The arrest of the suspect was possible through intelligence gathering by the seizing officers, led by A/C Abubakar Hamza, who trailed the suspect from neighboring Benin Republic.

HOUSE OF REPS SENDS DELEGATES TO ACCESS THE DANGER OF TANKS FARMS IN KIRIKIRI TOWN COMMUNITY

By Leke Baiyewu At an investigative hearing organised by an ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives in Abuja on Wednesday, the residents and tank farm owners strongly differed on the location of petroleum depots in the communities. The House of Representatives has resolved to send a delegation to Ijegun, Kirikiri and Satellite Town areas of Lagos State to assess the level of danger posed by petroleum tank farms to residents of the communities. The residents demanded the relocation of the tank farms in the area, saying they posed threat to lives and property. The Chairman of the Satellite Town Forum, Mr Michael Imitimi, said Satellite Town remained a residential area and that the primary responsibility of government was to protect lives and property.
