The trucks parked at Johnson Street - nine of them paid 10000 naira each
The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) Kirikiri Branch who is one of the 46 unions currently affiliated with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has pointed accusing fingers to the community boys saying that they are fond of illegally passing unsuspecting trucks from the link bridge down to the end of the line and collect huge sums of money ranging from NGN60,000 - NGNG100,000 per truck.

Weeks ago, a young man Onyekachi, died as a result of road congestion caused by the truck drivers insensitivity and traffic/surveillance officers carelessness and neglect.

A resident of Johnson street Julius said that over nine truck parked on the street when he woke up in the morning.

"I woke up this morning to find over  nine trucks parked on my street. i was dumbfounded. i mobilized my other residents and we immediately asked the tanker drivers to reverse out of the street. no body could drive out and pedestrians couldn't move freely" Julius spoke to Kirikiri News Media.

A tanker driver who was found murmuring loudly when asked to reverse, uttered that the boys collected NGN100,000 from him to pass his truck to the end of the line at midnight.

"I cannot even recognize the boys i gave money at midnight but the collected 100000 cash and parked me here. i thought i was on the line not until i was reversed back this morning" the tanker driver said.

The NUPENG PTD Deputy Chairman Kirikiri Branch  told press men that he does not know why the community boys are not law abiding and he blamed their actions on fuel scarcity.

"I think it is because of the fuel scarcity. the boys must eat. I am not in support of this and we would educate truck drivers not to be deceived and follow due process to load in any depot" the chairman  said.
