LANDLORDS PROTEST UNLAWFUL DEMOLITION IN LUGBE COMMUNITY

By Chibuzo Ukaibe
Association of landlords in Lugbe, Zone 8, in the federal capital territory (FCT), have staged a protest against what they called illegal demolition of their properties and threat to life by estate developers in the area.

They revealed that estate developers who had been asked by the federal capital development authority (FCTA) to stop work in the area has since flaunted the order and resorted to harassment as they continue to build on the land.

In their petition to the Department of State Services (DSS), the Abuja Municipial Area Council (AMAC) and commissioner of police, dated June 7, 2017, they lamented that their lives are no longer safe. The petition was jointly signed by the chairman, Anthony Akwada, His Royal Highness, Eze John Onwe, and Chris Isenijo.

It reads in part: “We write to you with utmost dismay in our hearts induced by developers, of the first Rotech Group Nigeria Limited.

“The aforementioned developer has severally come to residents of Lugbe Zone 8, Airport Road with heavily armed and dreaded looking policemen threatening us with an impending demolition of our houses, and shops claiming that a major part of zone 8 has been bought by him.

“Any attempt to query him by concerned residents, as to the legality of his claims, is always violently resisted by his armed police that are his body guards, and with a threat to kill”.

Sir we write to you, because the lives of residents of Lugbe Zone 8 are no longer safe, as the developer is threatening to demolish our house illegally.”
An attempt to reach the developer proved abortive as they refused to answer phone calls not even a reply to text message sent to them.
