POLICE SHOOT DEAD UNCONTROLLABLE DOGS AFTER BITING 2 PEOPLE IN QUEENS PARK COMMUNITY

Police have shot dead two pitbull-type dogs after a man and woman were bitten.

Armed officers were deployed to Queen's Park in Chorley New Road, Bolton, at 10:20 GMT on Sunday after reports that six dogs were dangerously out of control.

A 60-year-old woman had been bitten on the hand and a man was bitten on the leg, Greater Manchester Police said.

A man, 38, was arrested on suspicion of affray and allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control in public.

Officers are searching the area for another dog which is believed to be part of the group.

Two dogs "were humanely destroyed and two dogs have been seized", police said.

Another dog was seriously injured, they said.

Supt Chris Allsop said: "Highly trained officers responded quickly to the scene and took control to avoid the situation from escalating."

Salisbury Street and Deane Road, which were closed in the area, have now reopened.

FG SET TO BAN SALE OF ALCOHOL IN SMALL BOTTLES AND SACHET - SEE WHY

The Federal Government has issued directives targeted at phasing out the sale and consumption of alcohol in sachets and polyethylene terephthalate, PET, bottles. The goal is to reduce availability and curb abuse. Effective January 31 2021, producers of alcohol in sachets and small bottles are to reduce production by 50 per cent of capacity prior to January 2020. Mojisola Adeyeye, director-general of the National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, disclosed this in a statement. Adeyeye said uncontrolled access and availability of high concentration alcohol in sachet and small volume PET or glass bottles contribute to substance and alcohol abuse in Nigeria. She added that NAFDAC and the ministry of health have engaged major shareholders and have reached certain agreements. 22 PEOPLE DIE IN MOSHI COMMUNITY BECAUSE OF BLESSED OIL

At least 20 people have been killed and others injured in a stampede during an outdoor religious service in Tanzania.  Worshippers were attending a Pentecostal service in Moshi when the stampede occurred Worshippers were attending a Pentecostal service at a stadium in the northern town of Moshi on Saturday evening when the incident occurred. Moshi district commissioner Kippi Warioba said attendees rushed forward to be anointed with blessed oil. Tanzania's President John Magufuli sent his condolences and called for better security at such large events. The service was held by pastor Boniface Mwamposa, who refers to himself as "the apostle". Survivors said Mr Mwamposa told hundreds of people gathered at the service to pass through an area where "blessed oil" had been poured over the floor. LASSA FEVER KILLS 14 PEOPLE ACROSS COMMUNITIES IN NIGERIA

They are Ondo, Edo, Ebonyi, Taraba, Plateau, Bauchi and Ogun. Two other states, Kano and Delta, yesterday confirmed four deaths from the virus. Two doctors and a patient died in Kano; a single mother died in Delta. According to the latest figures from the NCDC in its Lassa fever Situation Report (Epi Week 02: 6th – 12th January 2020), 255 suspected cases were recorded. According to a summary of the current weekly indicators, the number of new confirmed cases rose from 18 in Week 1, 2020 to 64 in Week 2, out of which 12 deaths were recorded from 158 suspected cases. The cases were with a Case Fatality Ratio (CFR) of 18.8 per cent in 12 Local Government Areas of Ondo, Edo, Ebonyi, Taraba, Plateau, Bauchi and Ogun states. ...
