ORIADE TASK FORCE STORMS OKODUWA STREET – SANCTIONS PARKED TRUCKS

The Oriade Local Council Development Area (OLCDA) task force on illegal truck parking on roads today policed the roads to ensure a no-win situation against law breaking trucks.

The 12 member Task force team were found on Okoduwa Street in Kirikiri town where they sanctioned over 8 trucks that parked carelessly on the roadside without a noble reason.

Apparently, a truck driver whose truck was sanctioned said that the truck developed a fault and was in the process of fixing before the council task force apprehended them.

“We are fixing our vehicle and that’s why we parked here. We are almost done. The task force met us here fixing the truck but they couldn’t understand. Although they requested for money that we didn’t have, we were still sanctioned” the truck driver spoke to Kirikiri News Media.

However, an eye witness who runs a shop in Okoduwa Street condemned the attitude at which the task force official spoke to the truck drivers saying that it is just anomalous.

“When they came to meet the truck, the mechanic was working on it. I know they are doing their job but they ought to be considerate. We are all human beings and the kind of money they asked them for was too much for a truck driver. They are so hostile” the eye witness expressed.

The team leader, who didn’t want his name in print said that although their job is tasking, they also want to ensure the safety of road users in the community.

“These trucks park on the road and it’s a lawless act. Oriade has laws regarding traffic and roads. This roadside parking gives room to accidents, damage of LG roads, environmental hazards and can even become a criminal hideout. We are here to ensure the truck drivers obey the laws” the team leader said.
