Since the emancipation of his debut single featuring 2 smart ‘No Yawa’ which has been making air-waves since 2015, Well-liked producer and music artiste Benedict Daniel Usanga popularly known as Bennysoundz has kept everyone abreast of his beat producing dexterities not to mention his singing acuities.
Benedict who is the CEO of Bennysoundz Productions, has produced countless beats and has featured in over seven songs which he himself made the beat. He is currently topping the chart in the music category of the Kirikiri News Top 5 Best list for January 2016 published monthly.



In this exclusive chat with Kirikiri News Media, Benedict spoke on his lifestyle and promising career. Excerpts



YOU ARE POPULAR FOR YOUR NAME BENNYSOUNDZ, IS THAT YOUR REAL NAME?

My real names are Benedict Daniel Usanga.


COULD YOU TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF?

I'm a music producer and artiste. CEO Bennysoundz productions. I'm from Itu LGA of Akwa Ibom State. I was stubborn with my family when I was young but now I am mature and calm headed.


HOW DID YOU COME ABOUT THE NAME BENNY SOUNDZ?

It surprises people when I tell them that I asked God for a name and He gave me Bennysoundz. I was formerly called Benzema in my early start in music production but every time someone calls me Benzema, I feel fake. So I decided I'll ask God to choose a name for me.  I did and it worked.


AS THE CEO OF BENNYSOUNDZ PRODUCTION, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE TO ADD TO THE ALREADY CHOKED MUSIC INDUSTRY?

Well...I don't think d industry is choked. I offer entertainment and people's desire for entertainment grows daily.


HOW MANY BEATS HAVE YOU MADE SO FAR AND HOW MANY ARTISTES HAVE YOU MADE BEATS FOR?

Sincerely I can't count.


YOU CAN GIVE US AN ESTIMATE. CANT YOU?

By estimate I've made over 500 beats. Some did not go through, so I delete them especially when the trend is outdated. I'm always making beats just like a factory produces something every day.


MUSIC ARTISTES IN KIRIKIRI TOWN SEE YOU AS A GOD OF BEATS. WHY?

Hmmm... God of beats? Well...I have lots of fans as a producer. That’s true! Both in Kirikiri town and outside. They call me that too and it scares me. But I believe it’s God's grace.


FROM A BEAT MAKER TO A PRODUCER THEN AN ARTISTE, ARE YOU A JACK OF ALL TRADES?

Well my friends helped me see that I could sing as well. Most times, I fix people's song when I'm recording. I tell them what and how they should do. Even, I go as far as showing them example by recording myself: I ended up getting featured in some of the tracks. (Smiles)


WHAT’S YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND?

I have attended so many schools in my life oooo…I started off with Joy of Knowledge Primary School in Kirikiri town. Afterwards I traveled to Calabar. I schooled there in St Theresa's Primary School. I returned to Lagos and joined the Local Authority Primary School, Kirikiri town popularly known as LA School.  I began my secondary education at Awodi Ora Junior Second School, Ajegule, afterwards I attended Bola Ige Millennium Senior Secondary School. I got admission into UNILAG that was when I had to answer the call of destiny.


DID YOU ATTEND ANY FORMAL SCHOOL OF MUSIC PRODUCTION?

Not at all


HOW OLD ARE YOU (DATE OF BIRTH) AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY?

I was born 21st Sept 1991. I will be 24 in September.  I officially started Bennysoundz Production in the year 2014. But before then I've been producing but it was like a joke then.


HAVE YOU DONE ANY VIDEO YET AND WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THAT?

I haven’t done a video for my own song yet but I’ve been featured in some music videos. Some of which I produced. I want to shoot the video of ‘No Yawa as a remix: I'm on d remix now.


WHAT ARE THE TITLES OF ALL YOUR SONGS AND WHICH VIDEOS HAVE YOU FEATURED IN?

Olooku by Iceboy; its presently showing on DSTV music stations. Afro music plays it more. Izu - follow follow is another song.
Also playing on Soundcity, Hiptv, Music Africa and some of our local stations. Kelenke by Emco yet to be released. Rap Attack by Iceboy yet to be released too and three other videos yet to be released also.
 

WHERE DO YOU RESIDE?

I'm now in Olodi Apapa, Wilmer and Festac extension too.

I switch but I still run the studio in Kirikiri town occasionally.


WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GO INTO MUSIC AND ITS PRODUCTION?

The passion for creating and fixing songs. The passion has been my driving force. I love creating music.

I have lots and lots of female fans. I can’t say anything on dis one Pardon me

HOW WAS YOUR FIRST MUSIC SHOW LIKE, ANY EXPERIENCES?

I was so shy.


WHATS YOUR CHARGE PER TRACK?

I charge artistes based on the project or artiste demands.


WHICH NIGERIAN AND FOREIGN ARTISTES ARE YOUR ROLE MODELS AND WHICH ONE OF THEM WOULD YOU LOVE TO WORK WITH?

My Role model is Timberland for the foreign side and the Nigerian side, Don Jazzy. The aforementioned are producers but sing too.


WHAT KIND OF SONGS DO YOU DO?

I major in reggae but I blend in all Nigerian trends.


WHAT ARE YOUR BASIC PERCEPTIONS TO LIFE?

I see life as a chance and opportunity. I believe in living a purposeful life. I believe we were all created for a purpose.


DO YOU THINK KIRIKIRI TOWN ARTISTES ARE UNSERIOUS? ARTISTES SUCH AS 2SMART, IMMACULATE AND THE REST?

Haaah bro! The game isn’t easy ooh! We are all working. I can’t say anyone is unserious who am I?


WHAT ABOUT BABA KIRIKIRI, XOJ, ALAJE, AND THE REST?

Hmmm…I've done a couple of tracks for some of them. I produced and featured in a track with XOJ and 2 Smart titled ‘Olosho’.

Baba Kirikiri as an artiste is gifted. He just needs a platform. He's ready to work. He listens and he is humble. The platform he will get must be strong…that’s it! A strong need, if he gets a sponsor I believe he'll surprise a lot of people especially now that he has cut his dreadlocks.


WHAT ARE YOU ADVICE TO UPCOMING PRODUCERS AND ARTISTES ALIKE?

We should keep working but in the right direction. Set goals and targets. Fight to meet up and research a lot. And it all begins and ends with prayer, don’t forget that. Most importantly, God has the final say.

The Federal Government has issued directives targeted at phasing out the sale and consumption of alcohol in sachets and polyethylene terephthalate, PET, bottles. The goal is to reduce availability and curb abuse. Effective January 31 2021, producers of alcohol in sachets and small bottles are to reduce production by 50 per cent of capacity prior to January 2020. Mojisola Adeyeye, director-general of the National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, disclosed this in a statement. Adeyeye said uncontrolled access and availability of high concentration alcohol in sachet and small volume PET or glass bottles contribute to substance and alcohol abuse in Nigeria. She added that NAFDAC and the ministry of health have engaged major shareholders and have reached certain agreements. By Jerrywright Ukwu Electricity consumers ​not provided with prepaid meters ​as at​ March 1 2017 have been told to stop paying electricity bills -  This is the directive from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) The Distribution Companies (DISCOs) have however fired back saying the rule is not applicable to all Nigerians The NERC has ​declared that electricity consumers ​that were ​not provided with prepaid meters ​as at​ March 1 should stop paying electricity bills presented by DISCOs on the basis of estimated billing methodology. The commission also ordered the DISCOs not to disconnect any such customer that refuses to pay the bills and further advised such customers to report to the commission if disconnected. The NERC said​ the new directive is in line with its mandate of protecting the rights of customers. Police in Enugu have advised drivers and passengers to shun offers of drinks and suya meat from unknown persons at motor parks and other public areas.
