There was palpable tension in Egunughan community in the Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State on Thursday as some hoodlums hacked a man identified as Siyami Levi to death.

It was gathered that the late Levi was attacked on his way to fishing during which his legs were severed and his throat slit open.

An eyewitness from Egunughan community told Saturday PUNCH that the hoodlums laid in ambush on the waterways for unsuspecting locals.

The eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the slain victim was accompanied by his kinsman who narrowly escaped the onslaught and later alerted the community and security agencies in the area.

He said, “Some men with guns attacked Siyami Levi in Egunughan community, severed his legs and slit his throat near the river while he was on his way to fishing. He was in the company of his friend, who managed to escape the attackers and later informed the community and the military men in the community.

“They intervened but could not get the assailants. They were able to recover the corpse of the victim and deposited it in the mortuary.”

In a related development, gunmen on Tuesday shot and killed a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt, Godknows Opudaa, on Eteoo Road in the Eleme Local Government Area.

It was learnt that late Opudaa, an indigene of Ogu, Ogu/Bolo LGA, who worked with the West African Container Terminal in Onne Sea Port, was killed on his way home from work around 8pm.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that the victim was found in a pool of blood before he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.Thank you for reading. Kindly share also.
