PERSONNELS DEMOLISH POPULAR MARKET IN FAGGE COMMUNITY

Traders, at the popular Abubakar Rimi Market, Sabon Gari, in the Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State on Monday protested the demolition of attachments in front of their shops by the Kano Road and Transport Agency (KAROTA).

KAROTA personnel on Sunday demolished the attachments, which they described as illegal, on Ibo Road by Market Road, on the claims that they were encroaching into the road, and disrupting the flow of traffic.


Some of the aggrieved traders, who described the action, as untimely, said the effect of COVID-19 pandemic was still affecting the citizens and the country’s economy.

According to the aggrieved traders, the agency only gave them less than 12 hours notice to dismantle the illegal structures before the demolition.

‘’The notice was served on Sunday when about 75 per cent of the shops were not open for business,’’ one of them said.

As of the time of filing this report, most of the enraged traders were busy rummaging the ruins of their demolished attachment to salvage any valuable
