LEKKI COMMUNITY: TASK FORCE IMPOUNDS 92 MOTOR BIKES - LASG PROSECUTES OFFENDERS

Lagos State Government has prosecuted seven arrested motorcycle operators over an attack on officers of the Taskforce during its clamp down on motorcycle riders plying restricted routes around Oworonsoki, Adeniji-Adele junction, Obalende, Falomo, Lekki and Ikoyi link-bridge areas of the State.

The Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi disclosed that the seven commercial motorcyclists were arrested over the weekend for attacking Officers of the Agency with stones, bottles and iron-rods while trying to arrest ‘Okada’ riders plying restricted routes, adding that four of the Officers were severely injured in the attack.

According to the Chairman "The government would no longer tolerate the slightest attack on officers and men of the Agency; recently a Police Officer with the Agency died as a result of serious injuries he sustained from miscreants and hoodlums while on enforcement duty around Mile 12 area".

He also confirmed that during the enforcement operations carried out in Lekki and environs, 92 motorcycles were impounded for plying restricted routes including highways and bridges.

CSP Egbeyemi, therefore, enjoined other relevant stakeholders to support the Agency in curbing the 'Okada' menace, especially those in the habit of flouting the Lagos State Traffic Laws with recklessness on major roads including the Ikoyi link-bridge, Falomo, Lekki Phase One, Adeniji Adele and Obalende.

He revealed that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police CP Zubairu Muazu, after being briefed about the incident, condemned the attack in very strong terms and warned that the Police under his watch will not tolerate criminal attacks and assault on its personnel or facilities.

Similarly, the Operatives of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested two suspected hard drugs peddlers in the Alausa community of Ikeja, Lagos.

The suspects, Olukoya Ayodele (26) and Victor Godwin (30), were arrested following an intelligence gathering by officers of the Decoy Team of the RRS, mandated to uncover illicit drugs sale and distribution in the area.

The suspects in their confessional statements told the police that they buy and sell different types of hard drugs such as Indian Hemp, Skunk, Tramadol, Refnol, Diazal and other assorted hard drugs to factory workers in the area.

The suspects have since been transferred to the narcotics section of the Command for further investigations.
