87 YEAR OLD WOMAN SENT TO KIRIKIRI PRISON FOR SELLING INDIAN HEMP

A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Thursday, remanded one 87-year-old woman, Maria Agbomabiwon, in prison custody for dealing in 10.3 kg of Marijuana.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency dragged the accused, who resides at No. 9, Osunba Street, Oto-Awori, Ijaniki, Lagos, to the court, presided over by Justice Hadiza Rabiu-Shagari.

Also, another 56-year-old woman, Anya Nneoma, pleaded guilty before the same court for trafficking 5 kg of the restricted narcotics.

Both women are facing separate charges of one count each, bordering on drug trafficking.

Agbomabiwon and Nneoma were charged with unlawful dealing in the prohibited substances, contrary to the provisions of Sections 11(c) of NDLEA Act, Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

Following their pleas, the Prosecutor, Mr Aliyu Abubakar, urged the court to remand the duo in Kirikiri Maximum Prisons, pending a review of the facts of the case.

Consequently, the judge ordered that the two women be remanded in prison custody until Nov. 15, when there would be a review of the facts of the case and sentencing.

MAN SMUGGLES INDIAN HEMP TO BROTHER INSIDE KIRIKIRI PRISON

A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Friday, sentenced 24 year-old-man, Patrick Amadi to two years in prison for smuggling marijuana into kirikiri prison. Amadi was charged by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on one count of drug trafficking. Justice Ayotunde Faji sentenced Amadi after he pleaded guilty and begged the court to temper justice with mercy and promised not to engage in crime again. Justice Faji said the prison term should begin from the date of his arrest and admonished him to use the jail period to turn a new leaf and become a better person. Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, told the court that the accused was arrested on June 18 at the Kirikiri Maximum Prison in Lagos with 200 grammes of the narcotics. Aernan said Amadi was caught with the substance in his sandals, which he planned to hand over to his brother, whom he went to visit. "PRISON OFFICERS EXTORT MONEY FROM US AT THE TRAINING SCHOOL" - TRAINEES

About 408 personnel of the rank of Chief Superintendent of Prisons, drawn from commands across the country, are participating in a three-month course on development at the institution, Daily Trust on Sunday gathered. The programme is due to be concluded on November 15, it was gathered. Participants, however, alleged that the school had forced each of them to pay N37000 for ceremonial dress, belts and caps, items they claimed to posses.
