AFRICA Brands Review, an integrated marketing service company, has named Loral International Schools (LIS), Lagos & Osun States, as winner of “2017 Africa Top Schools Award (Platinum Category), as one of the top 10 schools in the country, and one of the best international schools in Africa.


The award, it was disclosed, stems from among other things, the school’s ratings in the 2017 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

To arrive at this, the firm said it compared how secondary schools across the country performed, and thereafter rated the top 1, 000 schools. It was after this that it bestowed the award in May 2017 on LIS.


The events brochure of the Africa Top 1, 000 School Award is to be distributed to embassies of various Africa countries and libraries of institutions of higher learning and blue chip companies. Free copies are to be sent to all participating schools on the continent.

“We didn’t apply for any award, they just wrote us a letter, and initially we were being skeptical, until they showed us results and proofs. So, we agreed with them at least it was from an official source. We emerged one of the best international schools in Africa, but before qualifying for this, we first qualified as one of the top 10 schools in Nigeria, where we were rated seventh. Being one of the top 10 schools amongst in the midst of about 11, 000 schools that write WASSCE, adds value to our certificates.”

Representing the Principal of the school, Amadi Ogbonnaya, who expressed elation at being “recognised as one of the top 10 schools in Nigeria,” added that this reminds us of our position and how academically successful we are. We need to let everyone know that we do a lot in LIS, and this stands us out. So, if you want sustained academics and all round education, Loral International School has it.”

PROPHET CAUGHT WITH HUMAN PARTS IN UMUNZE COMMUNITY

Youths of Umunze community of Anambra State has caught the general overseer of God of Light Ministry. The renowned young prophet was said to have met his waterloo at Amaikpa junction in the early hour of today at the Amaikpa junction of the community where he was caught performing rituals with calabash containing human and animal parts.  The prophet, Pastor Bishop Elijah Chukwuebuka known as Onye Amuma Anyi, Prophet Mega, Big Daddy" Shall I Prophesy" was known for his mysterious powers to tell without being told colors of ladies pant, people's phone numbers, name and that of their family members and so on was caught and paraded by youths of the community earlier today. WAREHOUSE COLLAPSES IN SOKO COMMUNITY, IBADAN

A warehouse under construction in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, has collapsed killing one person. It was learnt that the building, which was said to have collapsed on a mosque beside it, left another victim injured. The incident, it was gathered, happened in the Soka area of Ibadan, around the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday. A resident told our correspondent on Saturday that the deceased was identified as Bolaji, a teenager. The incident was said to have been reported at the Sanyo Police Station in Ibadan and policemen from the station were said to have visited the site as part of their investigation. Some residents told our correspondent that the warehouse had suffered a partial collapse in the past while blaming the incident on the alleged incompetence of those building it. KIRIKIRI TOWN IS MOSTLY AFFECTED BY SHIP WRECKAGE - NAVY

The Nigerian Navy on Tuesday in Lagos raised alarm over the impending dangers shipwrecks posed on the Nigerian waters. The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Adm. Oladele Daji, raised the alarm at a news conference held at the Base in Apapa, Lagos. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Correspondent who was part of the on-the-spot assessment team, saw the dangers posed by the shipwrecks on the Lagos-Badagry Waters. According to Daji, the area that is mostly affected is the Tin Can Island, Kirikiri, Navy Town and bad portion of the Badagry Creek. “The hazard associated with these wrecks is that most often, especially during high water, they are submerged and hardly visible to mariners and , therefore, pose greatest threats during this period of time. “Apart from endangering shipping, most of the wrecks also constitute environmental pollution and hazards. “I do not think it portrays us as a country with laws and regulations in good li
