GT BANK HOLDS LAGOS STATE PRINCIPALS CUP - SEE FIXTURES - 16 SCHOOLS TO PARTICIPATE

The teams discovered who they will face in the group stages on Wednesday, with 16 teams battling for honour in the boys and girls category

The draw for the 2017 edition of the GTBank-Lagos State Principal Cup was held on Wednesday at the financial institution’s corporate head office in Lagos.


In attendance were chairman Lagos State Football Association; Barr. Seyi Akinwunmi, Director Co-curricular Lagos State Ministry of Education; Mrs. Babs Akinyeye, Oyinade Adegite, Group Head, Communication & External Affairs, GTBank; and Mr. Wole Adenekan, Member, GTBank Lagos State Principals Cup Planning Committee.

"We witnessed a wonderful display of passion, talent and skill among the teams of the Season 7 tournament and I am certain that as the tournament progresses this year, more students will experience football on a level where they not only showcase their potential, but also practice leadership, commitment, fair play and teamwork,’’ said the Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank plc.

“The Bank will continue to sustain this platform that has proved quite successful in identifying and nurturing young and talented footballers, and setting them on the path to stardom while inculcating in them the values of excellence, discipline and fair play.”

Defending champions Dairy Agege were zoned in Group D alongside Ogunmodede College Epe, Badore Comprehensive Senior High School and Jubilee Model Senior Grammar School, Surulere.


2013 champions Keke High School, Ijaiye will need to navigate their way past Ajeromi Ifelodun Senior High School, Ajegunle, Muslim Senior College, Oworonsoki and Ijaiye Estate Senior Grammar School in Group A.

Ejigbo Senior High School – who were champs in 2014, were given a relatively straightforward draw as they face out-of-sorts Methodist Senior High School, Badagry, Odogunyan Senior Grammar School, Ikorodu and Ikotun Senior High School, Ikotun in Group B.

Birrel Avenue Senior High School, Yaba are still without a title to their name and they will have a bumpy ride just reaching the last eight as Estate Senior Grammar School, Mushin, Agidingbi Senior Grammar School, Ikeja and Gbaja Boys School, Surulere.

In the Girls category, Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, Ilado Community Senior High School, Ikoyi, Lekki Community Senior High School, Lekki and Sanya Senior Grammar School, Surulere were pooled in Group A.

Group B boasts of Isale Eko Grammar School, Jubilee Model Senior Grammar School, Surulere, Ilupeju Senior Secondary School, Mushin, Government Senior College, Agege.

Ikotun Senior High School, Ikotun, Ikorodu Senior High School, Ijaye Housing Estate Senior Grammar School and Tincan Island Senior Secndary School make up Group C, while CMS Girls Secondary School, Euba Senior Secondary School, Ayedere Ajibola Senior High School and Methodist Senior School will hope to seal a place in the quarter-final in Group D.

Dairy Farm Senior Secondary School, Lagos Baptist College, Agege, St, Finbarr’s College Akoka and Army Cantonment Medical Science Field will host the preliminary stages of the championship which commences on April 21.
