As the Christmas celebration draws close, the Lagos state government yesterday said it will commence the sales of the much awaited Lake Rice tomorrow.

The sale, earlier scheduled for December 15 at a cost at N13, 000 per 50 kg has been re-scheduled to commence tomorrow at some specific locations across the state.

It was however gathered the late arrival of the rice was due to unexpected delay in production. However, a state official who preferred anonymity, mentioned that the price of the 50 kilogram bag of the rice has been reduced to N12, 000, against the earlier speculated N13, 000.

Gov. Ambode The new sales points are said to super cede the previous ones earlier announced by the Special Adviser to the state Governor on Food Security, Mr. Sanni Okanlawan, who said the commodity will be made available at the 20 Local Government Areas, and 37 Local Council Development Areas.

The new locations are: 

Lagos East;
  1. Ikorodu-Odogunyan Farm Service Centre,
  2. Epe - Temu Farm Service Centre
  3. Eredo- Noforija Town Hall
  4. Ibeju- Magbon; Alade High School
  5. Maryland- Subeb Premises.

Lagos West;
  1. Agege - LSADA Complex/Farm Service Centre
  2. Ojo - LAISA Office Agric Bus Stop
  3. Mowo- Coconut House
  4. Badagry - Town Farm Service Centre Marina
  5. Oshodi - Ikeja Grammar School, Bolade

Lagos Central – 
  1. Ajah  - Ministry of Agriculture Area Office
  2. Lagos Island – Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Office Adeniji/Freeman
  3. Ajegunle - Alakoto Senior High School Tolu;
  4. Surulere - TESLIM Balogun Stadium
  5. Yaba - Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park.

Okanlawan had said that sales of the rice would be made at all the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in the state to ensure proper distribution.

According to him, “Lake Rice is the acronym of both Lagos and Kebbi States joint product which will be out to the public on Dec. 15 at the rate of N13,000 per 50kg bag as it is already subsidized by the government.

LAGOS GOVERNOR APPROVES NGN1.5B PENSION MONEY FOR LG RETIREES

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has approved the release of N1.5billion intervention fund for the payment of outstanding gratuities and pension arrears of local government retirees in the state. "PRISON OFFICERS EXTORT MONEY FROM US AT THE TRAINING SCHOOL" - TRAINEES

By Stella Iyaji, Joshua Odeyemi (Abuja) & Eugene Agha Officers of the Nigeria Prison Service undergoing a training programme at its institution in Kirikiri Town, Lagos, have accused officials of the school of extortion in the guise of providing them with uniforms. About 408 personnel of the rank of Chief Superintendent of Prisons, drawn from commands across the country, are participating in a three-month course on development at the institution, Daily Trust on Sunday gathered. The programme is due to be concluded on November 15, it was gathered. Participants, however, alleged that the school had forced each of them to pay N37000 for ceremonial dress, belts and caps, items they claimed to posses.
