NIGERIA PRISONS SERVICE PROMOTES 10,979 SERVICE MEN/WOMEN

The Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board has approved the promotion of 10,979 personnel, including 4,075 officers and men of the Nigerian Prisons Service on Consolidated Paramilitary Salary Structure 08 to 15.
Officers on lateral conversion from inspectorate to officers’ cadre due to acquisition of additional qualifications also benefited from the promotion exercise, a statement on Monday in Abuja by the Prisons Service Public Relations Officer, Francis Enobore, stated.

It said the Controller-General of Prisons, Ja’afaru Ahmed, in a letter signed by the Assistant Controller-General of Prisons, Mr. O.Y. Musa, approved the promotion of 6,904 other ranks, including those elevated from Prisons Assistant cadre to the inspectorate cadre.

A breakdown of the exercise indicated that 609 senior officers benefited from the promotion, while 352 Principal Inspectors of Prisons were elevated to Chief Inspectors of Prisons and 2,435 Inspectors of Prisons promoted to Senior Inspectors.

About 133 on inspectorate cadre were converted to officers’ cadre, 546 upgraded from Inspector to Assistant Superintendent and 1,039 Assistant Inspectors of Prisons elevated to Inspectors of Prisons.

About 120 Prisons Assistant were promoted to Inspectors and 1,812 Senior Prisons Assistant to Chief Prisons Assistant, including 1,548 Prisons Assistant 1 who were elevated to Senior Prisons Assistant.
