UNIVERSITY OF FREIBURG STUDENTS NOT ALLOWED TO EAT LEFTOVER FOOD ANYMORE

Students at a university in southern Germany will no longer be allowed to eat each other's leftovers in the canteen because of health and safety concerns.
Until now, those dining at the University of Freiburg could polish off anything they spotted on the conveyor belt of returned trays. But the student welfare service says it is putting a stop to the practice - which is known as "conveyor-belting" - over fears it's not safe, the SWR public broadcaster reports.

Deputy manager Renate Heyberger says they initially tolerated students gobbling up half-finished meals, but now that the idea has caught on they felt they had to act. "The leftovers are a hygiene risk. If something happens, the manager would be responsible," she says. A cover will be added to the belt to prevent people from picking at the leftovers.

About 40 students regularly partake in conveyor-belting and they're not happy about the new prohibition. Student Jonathan Frey tells SWR that none of them would complain if they ended up getting ill from the food. He suggests that an agreement could be drawn up with the student association for those who want to continue eating leftovers.

Hygiene expert Dr Ernst Tabori says that he sees little risk, provided the students have healthy immune systems and use clean cutlery. It does depend on the food, though. Taking chips from the conveyor belt would be no different to sharing them with friends, he says, but finishing off someone else's bowl of soup could risk passing on germs.

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law a bill that raises the minimum age of sexual consent from 12 to 16, his office said on Monday, in a bid to protect minors from rape and sexual abuse. The Philippines until now has had one of the world’s lowest minimum ages of sexual consent, behind Nigeria’s age of 11, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). A joint 2015 study by UNICEF and the Center for Women’s Resources, a local non-governmental group, showed seven of 10 rape victims in the Philippines were children. One in five respondents age 13 to 17 reported experiencing sexual violence, while one in 25 experienced forced consummated sex during childhood, the study said. After weeks of steady rain, a ray of sunlight: A woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl inside a rescue helicopter as she was being lifted from a flooded village in northern Peru, the Peruvian Army said. PREGNANT LADY, 5 OTHERS DIE FROM TRANSFORMER EXLPOSION

There was pandemonium at Tundunwada, Lugbe a satellite town in Abuja when a transformer exploded and electrocuted five persons, including a pregnant woman who recently relocated to the area. Another four persons were also said to have been injured during the incident, including a six-year-old boy, Destiny Okolo, who suffered injuries on his face and left ear. According to Punch, the transformer was on fire for about 10 minutes during which it sent devastating electric current to some residential apartments in the area. The Head, Corporate Communications and Community Relations, AEDC, Mr. Oyebode Fadipe, confirming the incident on Tuesday said investigation had commenced. “The incident happened around 9pm on Saturday, four persons injured about six persons died.” Fadipe, however, declined to speak about compensations for the victims as insisted by the victim’s families, until the cause of the accident had been established and a decision taken by the management.

AISHA BUHARI PRESENTS GIFTS TO '2022 FIRST BABY' IN BWARI COMMUNITY HOSPITAL, ABUJA

Aisha Buhari, first lady, has presented gifts to the “first baby of the New Year”, said to have been delivered around 12am in the federal capital territory (FCT). Hosea Bemi and his wife, Esther, who received gifts from the first lady, had their baby on Saturday at the General Hospital in Bwari, FCT. According to NAN, Aisha was represented by Mairo Al-Makura, special assistant to the president on the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM).
