“Please don’t call dad, I will talk” Rita sobbed as she fell
to her knees.
Michael tapped her on the shoulders in a bid for her to
remain silent but she shook his hands off her shoulder before he reached to
touch them.
“I said who are you?” Ramipatra asked Michael in a loud
voice.
“Are you deaf? Who are you and what do you want with my
daughter” Ramipatra asked again as she dialed Alegribusa’s phone number.
“Mummy, please…” Rita begged.
“Shut up Rita! I am calling your father” Ramipatra scolded.
Alegribusa’s guards had just brought out Punto and Chechesky
from the guard room and they knelt down before him and the entire crowd. Their clothes
were already dirty as rags because the floor of the guard room was made of
sawdust and the roof leaked.
Alegribusa’s phone rang. It was his wife, Ramipatra calling.
“Papa Rita, where are you?” she asked.
“I am at the security post with those two boys” he replied.
“Please come home or send one of your guards to the house”
she said hurriedly before the popular Network woman on the phone continued.
“Your call credit has been exhausted, and your call
terminated. You can borrow airtime and continue your call with MTN extra time
dial *606# to check if you can use this service or load an all in one card. Thank
you” Network tone followed..pum..pum.. pum
“Credit mi oti ton, Oko mi o pa da lo ile o” Ramipatra said
as she stood akimbo.
Alegribusa immediately ordered his guards to follow him as
he moved sharply towards the road leading to his house. After about two minutes
of walking fast, he noticed that he was being followed by the same crowd from
the market.
“This crowd really has time, they have followed me from the
market to the security post and now they are following me to my house? And I don’t
even know what to expect in my house” Alegribusa uttered to himself.
Ramipatra did not believe what she saw immediately her
husband entered into the compound. She saw people banging on the gate, climbing
the fence, pushing and struggling with the guards stationed at the gate to
prevent them from entering the premises. They all wanted to get a glimpse of
the action. They didn’t want to miss a single scene.
“You called me, mama Rita?” Alegribusa said.
“Yes, I did” Ramipatra replied.
“Who is this young man? Alegribusa asked…to be continued
