Members of Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday called for the immediate implementation of Neighbourhood Safety Corps Law 2016 in a resolutions passed by the House to solve the security issues in the State.
Hon. Olusegun Olulade, representing Epe Constituency II, made this call under Matters of Urgent Public Importance while narrating how kidnappers came through the waterways to abduct the Principal, House Master and four students of Igbonla Model College and also kidnapped a 70year old former bank manager in Epe area of the State.
He further stated that there is need to strengthen the State Security Trust Fund Law, provide gunboats and marine police on the State waterways in order to provide maximum security.
Contributing, Hon. Oluyinka Ogundimu, representing Agege II, emphasized the need for total control of security in the State. He suggested that the rights to security matters be removed from exclusive list to concurrent list.
Adding his voice, Hon. Abiodun Tobun representing Epe Constituency I, requested the State Government to build up a surveillance to monitor the routes in Epe axis saying “Epe is under siege”.
While sympathizing with the parents, principal and others, he commended the Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule, Commissioner of Police and other government agencies for their prompt response on the incident that happened at Igbonla Model College.
To this end, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, on behalf of the House, called on the Federal Government to provide joint operation for enforcement on the coastal line while also calling on the State Ministry of Education to ensure the enforcement of fencing of all public schools in the State.
Similarly, LSHA appealed to the Nigeria Senate to reconsider the Bill for Special Status and Federal Grants to Lagos State in recognition of its socio-economic benefits.
