THERE was palpable tension around Umueze community in Umuahia when unidentified gunmen attacked a young woman known as Rebecca Solomon and left her with machete cuts.
The victim, who spoke with Southern City News from her hospital bed, said she received cuts on her face, neck and was left in a pool of her blood before some good Samaritans rushed her to the hospital.
Narrating her ordeal, Solomon said she was returning to her family house that fateful day before her attackers, who had laid ambush, struck.
She said, “I was about entering our compound when I noticed a car parked by our gate. Immediately, three men came out from the car and asked me, “Where is Dr. Ezinne Ofoegbu, your sister?
“I felt they were her patients. So, I told them that she was not in town. They said since she was not in town, that they will leave a message for her.
“At this point, I became frightened and stopped moving towards our gate and I asked them, ‘what message?’ They asked me to go in and offer them seats, but I refused.
“Instantly, they started dragging me into our house. When people became interested in what was happening, they started shooting into the air to scare people away. That was when they started inflicting different cuts on me. One of them was holding a knife.
“I was bleeding profusely as a result of the deep cuts they inflicted on me and I lost consciousness. It was in the hospital that I found myself. Now I am getting better to the glory of God. That is how I escaped death.
“One of the hoodlums said, “That nonsense doctor is lucky to have been away, we would have taught her lessons of life.”
