Few weeks after the raid in Sunset Juliana Hotel by the Nigeria Army when the crisis between the two factions of the Community Youth (Owode Ijere Youth Forum) reached its peak. Both factions fought using cutlasses, bottles and sharp objects. Innocent residents were at their mercy.
Yesterday, unidentified youths stormed the same hotel wielding machetes of different lengths against one another and vandalizing the hotels’ property. The fracas which lasted about 45 minutes made all residents lock their doors and shops in fear of being wounded by stray bottles that flew around.
While the fight lasted, there was no police presence. It’s not sure if they were called to calm the situation. However, two hours later, the police arrived the scene and were seen taking one of the hotel managers away with them and returning him back few minutes later.
Although the hotel may have incurred some damages which has not been estimated, they face this same challenge daily as different group of males and females use the premises to settle their disputes violently. Fun seekers and party lovers still patronize them but with their hearts in their hands.
A Resident who lives close hotel told Kirikiri News Media that the fight was as a result of a stolen phone weeks ago and it involved two cult groups because their utterances were not in simple common English language but slangs.
However, residents of Johnson Street where the hotel is situated remain in constant panic by the day as these days there must be a fight every day.
“These days there is always a fight every day. Before they fought with hands then upgraded to using broken bottles, now they use cutlasses, very soon they will begin to use guns. We are not safe same as our children who move freely on the street. I suggest the hotel should consider constant police security for their business and premises” Mrs. Florence spoke to Kirikiri News Media.
The Hotel management were not available for comments as at the time of filing this report.
