KIRIKIRI TOWN CELEBRATES MARCH IGUNNUKO FESTIVAL

The Igunnuko festival is one of the many cultural festivals celebrated in Lagos state. Several communities in the state celebrate the yearly festival in style.

The Kirikiri town Igunnuko festival commenced at Agunbiade street with different colorful masquerades launching out to dance and display. They even danced for thirty minutes on the newly constructed Cardoso road.

''The festival is celebrated yearly and it is just like Christmas celebration but a cultural festival that we celebrate. The Baale and his family with all other families from within and outside Kirikiri town will converge to celebrate this year's Igunnuko festival. I am happy and I will be in my best attire'' a close member of the Baale's family spoke to Kirikiri News.

They all partied all night dancing traditional songs mixed with modern dancehall in preparation for the event proper in the day.

Don't forget to take off your shoes and hold them in your hands when you see the masquerade or else it would pursue you.

AJEGULE COMMUNITY, OTHERS RECEIVE MOSQUITO NETS FROM IKEJA ELECTRIC

By Deji Lambo In commemoration of this year’s World Malaria Day electricity distribution firm, Ikeja Electric, has donated mosquito nets to residents of Ajegunle community in the Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State. The Corporate Social Responsibility and Brand’s Supervisor, IE, Adebimpe Akintola, said apart from Ajegunle, five other communities in the state were also beneficiaries of the gesture targeted at 6,000 residents. Akintola said apart from giving out mosquito nets, the firm was also educating residents on the best way to prevent malaria. She said, “We are concurrently running this intervention across six different communities in the state and our plan is to target at least 1,000 people in each of the six locations where the project is being executed. 7 STUDENTS AND ONE TEACHER KIDNAPPED IN DAMBO-KASAYA COMMUNITY

By Ibrahim Mohammed Armed men on Monday attacked a school in Kaduna, killing one person and kidnapping seven students and a teacher, residents said. The armed men killed a man and abducted seven students and a teacher of Prince Academy, located at Damba-Kasaya village in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The incident happened around 8 a.m. on Monday when the gunmen stormed the rural community while the students were preparing for their Junior secondary school examination‎. It gathered that the abducted students are JSS3 students who were among the exit students asked to resume by the federal and state government.
