The Igunnuko festival is one
of the many cultural festivals celebrated in Lagos state. Several communities in the
state celebrate the yearly festival in style.
The Kirikiri town
Igunnuko festival commenced at
Agunbiade street with different colorful masquerades launching out to
dance and display. They even danced for thirty minutes on the newly
constructed Cardoso road.
''The festival is celebrated yearly and
it is just like Christmas celebration but a cultural festival that we
celebrate. The Baale and his family with all other families from within
and outside Kirikiri town will converge to celebrate this year's
Igunnuko festival. I am happy and I will be in my best attire'' a close
member of the Baale's family spoke to Kirikiri News.
They all
partied all night dancing traditional songs mixed with modern dancehall
in preparation for the event proper in the day.
Don't forget to take
off your shoes and hold them in your hands when you see the masquerade
or else it would pursue you.
