KUJE COMMUNITY - 79,000 CHILDREN IMMUNIZED AGAINST POLIO

The World Health Organisation (WHO) says it immunised about 79, 000 children of below five years against polio during the just concluded polio immunisation in Kuje Area Council, FCT.

Mr Shola Ayeniyi, the WHO Local Government Facilitator, made the disclosure during a general review meeting at the end of the polio immunisation at the Primary Health Care Centre in Kuje on Wednesday.

He stated that the polio immunisation, titled ‘End Polio Now,’ commenced on Nov. 3 and ended on Nov. 6.

Ayeniyi explained that the exercise was aimed at ensuring children were vaccinated for eradication of the virus to ensure their healthy growth.

The facilitator said the exercise, with the help of massive awareness creation through media sensitisation in the area, yielded 95 per cent coverage.

He, however, noted that there were pockets of non-compliance and rejection in some communities, stressing that this was quickly addressed with proper sensitisation by the district heads.

Ayeniyi also called on the council administration to fix dilapidated roads in some communities to help facilitate coverage in subsequent exercise in the area

FEMA CONFIRMS THAT FLOOD WASHED MAN AWAY IN LUGBE COMMUNITY

By Annie Nwosu The FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has warned FCT residents to avoid flooded areas to avert the dangers of becoming victims of flood. The Director-General of FEMA, Alhaji Idriss Abbas, gave the warning in a statement on Sunday, NAN reports. A man has died of the coronavirus in the Philippines, the first confirmed fatality outside China. The death was confirmed shortly after the Philippines halted the arrivals of foreign travellers from China The patient was a 44-year-old Chinese man from Wuhan, in Hubei province, where the virus was first detected. At a length of 10.79 kilometers (6.65 miles), the Taihu tunnel stretches under Lake Taihu in eastern China's Jiangsu Province, about 50 kilometers east of Shanghai. According to government officials in Jiangsu, the tunnel was built at a cost 9.9 billion yuan (about $1.56 billion). Construction began on January 9, 2018. Over 2 million cubic meters of concrete were used to build the two-way tunnel, which has six lanes and is 17.45 meters wide, reports China's official news agency, Xinhua.
