MAN STEALS 44 PIECES OF COW SKIN (KPOMO) IN OJOKORO COMMUNITY

One Adesanya Tobi, 26, on Wednesday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court charged with breaking into a shop and stealing 44 pieces of cow skin popularly called `kpomo’, valued N80,000.


Tobi, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to the two counts of breaking and stealing preferred against him.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Eruada Victor, said the accused committed the offences on March 25 at Ijaye Bus Stop, Ojokoro, Lagos.

Eruada said the accused broke into the shop of the complainant, Yusuf Iyabo, to commit the offence.

The prosecutor said Tobi was caught by the vigilance group in the area, adding that the offences contravened sections 285 and 308 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

He said the iron rods and cutlasses he used to damage the door of the shop were recovered from him.

Section 285 stipulates three years jail term on conviction.

The Magistrate, Mrs. G.O. Anifowoshe, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Anifowoshe adjourned the case until April 17 for mention.

UMUAHIA COMMUNITY - WHY I KILLED MY PASTOR FRIEND

A self-acclaimed evangelist, Prosper Peter, on Tuesday said he plotted the killing of his friend, Kelechi Iwuanyanwu, a pastor in a new generation church in Umuahia, for many decades. Mr Peter, who was arrested by the Police in Abia State in conjunction with Zone 9 Command, told journalists at the Police Officers’ Mess, Umuahia, that his grouse was that the deceased refused to assist him financially. He said he recruited three persons that murdered Mr Iwuanyanwu, his alleged mistress and Woman Leader in the church, Ruth Eze and Kalu Ikeagwu, the assistant pastor. Mr Iwuanyanwu, who was the founder of Winds of Glory Ministry, Umuahia, was murdered along with the two others at his residence, located at Umuobia Housing Estate in the early hours of October 14. EX-FOOTBALLER JAILED FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

By Jane Aimuengheuwa A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has convicted and sentenced Ex-footballer, Okafor Emmanuel, a former professional footballer, to five years imprisonment for drug trafficking. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Operatives had arraigned the convict before the court after he was arrested with 1.40kg of crack cocaine concealed in his bags. Recall that he was arrested with the banned substance on his arrival from Brazil on September 26 at the arrival hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos. Following his arrest, his verdict has been announced and he will be facing five years in jail. He pleaded guilty to the charges levelled against him by NDLEA and was sentenced to five years imprisonment by Justice Nicholas Oweibo.
