11 PEOPLE FEARED DEAD AFTER LANDSLIDE HIT BANARAN COMMUNITY

At least 11 people are feared dead after a landslide triggered by heavy rain in Indonesia's East Java province.

The landslide struck Banaran village in Ponorogo district early on Saturday, damaging 30 homes, the national disaster agency said.

Security forces and emergency teams are clearing the mud to look for victims. Residents are being evacuated.

Saturday's landslide hit as people were harvesting ginger at the foot of a hill, officials said.

Floods and landslides triggered by heavy seasonal rains are common in Indonesia.

Many people in the 17,000 islands that make up Indonesia live in mountainous areas or near fertile flood plains.

This is according to the Minister of State for aviation, Mr Hadi Sirika, who told journalists at the airport in the nation’s capital that the rehabilitation of the runway is 100 percent complete. The minister landed at the airport at about 11.15am on board a Caverton helicopter from Kaduna, coming a day to the date scheduled for the reopening. 14 BED CLINIC BUILT IN YAHAYA KWANDE COMMUNITY

By Gyang Bere, Jos A former member of the House of Representatives in the Eighth National Assembly, Dr. Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, recently constructed and furnished a 14-bed clinic for residents of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. It was learnt that the clinic, located in the centre of Jos, would serve the health needs of the less privileged in society. The Yahaya Kwande Community Clinic has female and male wards, children and delivery units and a consulting room for doctors and nurses where emergency cases would be attended to. Dr. Suleiman commenced the construction of the clinic as part of his constituency projects during the Eighth Assembly but couldn’t finish it before he left the House of Representatives in 2019. He completed, furnished and handed over the facility to the community on Monday, August 24. Tradition demands that Aunt must have sex with niece's groom as potency test.

In Uganda, according to the custom of the Banyankole community tribe, the aunt of the bride must have sex with the groom as a "potency test", and furthermore, has to test the bride's virginity, when the couple wants to get married. Some traditions assert that the husband would first have sex with the aunt before proceeding to have it with the bride.
