11 PEOPLE FEARED DEAD AFTER LANDSLIDE HIT BANARAN COMMUNITY

At least 11 people are feared dead after a landslide triggered by heavy rain in Indonesia's East Java province.

The landslide struck Banaran village in Ponorogo district early on Saturday, damaging 30 homes, the national disaster agency said.

Security forces and emergency teams are clearing the mud to look for victims. Residents are being evacuated.

Saturday's landslide hit as people were harvesting ginger at the foot of a hill, officials said.

Floods and landslides triggered by heavy seasonal rains are common in Indonesia.

Many people in the 17,000 islands that make up Indonesia live in mountainous areas or near fertile flood plains.

AJEGULE COMMUNITY, OTHERS RECEIVE MOSQUITO NETS FROM IKEJA ELECTRIC

By Deji Lambo In commemoration of this year’s World Malaria Day electricity distribution firm, Ikeja Electric, has donated mosquito nets to residents of Ajegunle community in the Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State. The Corporate Social Responsibility and Brand’s Supervisor, IE, Adebimpe Akintola, said apart from Ajegunle, five other communities in the state were also beneficiaries of the gesture targeted at 6,000 residents. Akintola said apart from giving out mosquito nets, the firm was also educating residents on the best way to prevent malaria. By Ibrahim Mohammed Armed men on Monday attacked a school in Kaduna, killing one person and kidnapping seven students and a teacher, residents said. The armed men killed a man and abducted seven students and a teacher of Prince Academy, located at Damba-Kasaya village in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. DRUG TRAFFICKING: SUSPECT NABBED WITH 106 PARCELS OF HEMP & 4 PASSPORTS

A suspected cannabis trafficker, Mr. Sylvester Gbenga has been arrested by the Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS. Gbenga was arrested at Gbaji Customs checkpoint along Lagos-Badagry expressway on Wednesday and handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, yesterday. In a statement by the Customs Public Relations Officer, PRO of the Command, Taupyen Selchang, the suspect was arrested with about 106 parcels of hemp.
