ABIA STATE PLANS TO BUILD 1020 BUILDINGS ACROSS 17 COUNCIL AREAS - OVER 50 COMMUNITIES WILL BENEFIT

Abia State government has unveiled plans to build a 60-unit housing estate in each of the 17 council areas of the state, totaling 1,020 houses across the state.

Commissioner for Housing, Chief Osita Igbe, who stated this in an interview with Vanguard, said the housing project was part of efforts by the state government to boost grassroots across the state. 

Ikpeazu Igbe explained that arrangements were set to engage the private sector and mortgage banks to deliver the houses that would have civil servants, members of trade associations and unions designated as beneficiaries.

He said: “The state government is planning something new in the area of mass housing. Inasmuch as we intend to decongest the capital city, we equally desire to create greater opportunities for civil servants and members of trade associations to own houses in their local government areas of origin. 

“By the time the houses are completed and delivered to the beneficiaries, you will see other ancillary services naturally taking place, which of course, will drive development in the 17 council areas.”

FEMA CONFIRMS THAT FLOOD WASHED MAN AWAY IN LUGBE COMMUNITY

By Annie Nwosu The FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has warned FCT residents to avoid flooded areas to avert the dangers of becoming victims of flood. The Director-General of FEMA, Alhaji Idriss Abbas, gave the warning in a statement on Sunday, NAN reports. Abbas said most of the deaths recorded in the past from flood in the FCT were as a result of non-compliance to instructions and early warnings. A man has died of the coronavirus in the Philippines, the first confirmed fatality outside China. The death was confirmed shortly after the Philippines halted the arrivals of foreign travellers from China The patient was a 44-year-old Chinese man from Wuhan, in Hubei province, where the virus was first detected. He appeared to have been infected before arriving in the Philippines, the World Health Organization (WHO) said. More than 300 people have died in the outbreak so far, the vast majority from Hubei. At a length of 10.79 kilometers (6.65 miles), the Taihu tunnel stretches under Lake Taihu in eastern China's Jiangsu Province, about 50 kilometers east of Shanghai. According to government officials in Jiangsu, the tunnel was built at a cost 9.9 billion yuan (about $1.56 billion). Construction began on January 9, 2018. Over 2 million cubic meters of concrete were used to build the two-way tunnel, which has six lanes and is 17.45 meters wide, reports China's official news agency, Xinhua.
