9TH ANNUAL TREE PLANTING EXERCISE - HON. AKEEM BELLO REPRESENTS AKINWUNMI AMBODE

The Lagos State Governor represented by Hon Akeem Bello marked the 9th year of its Tree Planting Campaign yesterday, July 14, 2016 at Ifelodun Local Council Development Area Amukoko as part of its effort to mitigate the impact of climate change and encourage planting of trees in the state. The theme for this year’s celebration: “Lend a hand to save trees”, is aimed at further emphasizing the importance of trees to the survival of human life and its benefit to the environment as it purifies the air we breathe, reduces the effect of noise and flooding, as well as enhances the value of property.Without trees, human life would be unsustainable.

The campaign was held simultaneously in the twenty(20) local government and thirty seven(37)LCDA .

The annual tree planting exercise was conceived by the administration of the erstwhile governor,Mr.Babatunde Raji Fashola(SAN)and has over the years being performed on annual basis to improve on our culture of tree planting in order to boost our tree population from the devastating effect of tree felling.

It is not merely that the world is bettered by saving, replacing, and multiplying trees. It is that an aim of this kind becomes an impulse towards developing a mood and an outlook which will increasingly make it natural to think for the future, for other people, for generations yet unborn. Planting a tree is a symbol of a looking-forward kind of action; looking forward, yet not too distantly.
