Categorically, in the already poured minds of the residents of the Kirikiri town community, numerous water borehole projects having dominated every other project seems to be presently a dead-end job which requires a change because it is now considered by the people as flogging a dead horse.
According to a survey carried out by Kirikiri News Media, there are over 22 public water bore hole in existence within the Kirikiri town community. Half of these boreholes were constructed either by past or present political leaders, organizations, groups, and the rest, individuals. Not to mention, some residents have boreholes installed in their homes.
Speaking to a resident of Kirikiri town, Julius, he said that the extent at which water boreholes are being constructed in the community is appalling.
"There are so many water boreholes in this community, what is the problem? every corner you go to, there is borehole whether functioning, abandoned or not functioning. The worst of it is that without light, they do not work" Julius spoke to Kirikiri News Media.
Another resident who did not want his name in prints for fear of victimization said that it is because the project is very cheap to execute, that is why it became a thin excuse especially for government officials, organizations and community development bodies.
"Actually, there are a lot of boreholes in our community because it is so cheap. It can be constructed with less than NGN 100000. That is why you see it is everywhere. Even the individuals who construct theirs for commercial use spend less money but spend more to maintain it while others never maintain theirs but spent less money to construct it" he said.
Another resident who begged to differ on the issue said that residents complain too much about good things.
"Why are we complaining about what some communities cry of. People don't have water but we have enough, yet we still complain. This is a case of ungratefulness on our path. Even if we have 500 public water boreholes in Krikiri town, I will not mind. I love water" Dele said.
"We are tired of boreholes in Kirikiri town, we be fish? I don taya, na so so water them dey do, them no fit do any other thing? see our road, we no get health center, we no get any thing for this town. We wan drink water die? This one come do bore hole, this one come do bore hole again, this one come do borehole again, this one come do..... na wa oooo... we wan drink water die?" Bode expressed angrily.
"I think the boreholes are too much, especially the ones that are not functioning. In fact except the commercial boreholes, all others are really not reliable. In my house we all drink sachet water - pure water - I buy in bags every three days and I don't drink any water from any borehole. We need another kind of project to be done and no more water" Ikechukwu uttered.
Water is a dead certainty to humans and its existence. however, according to a fact, too much of everything is not good. Water projects are essential, road projects, health center and infrastructure are more essential in Kirikiri town presently.
