JOHNSON STREET: AT A COMPLETE LOSS OF GRANDEUR

Johnson street is one of the 49 Streets in Kirikiri town. Just as the name implies, it was named after the Johnson’s. Johnson street formerly covers a length of 645 meters, but for Cardoso Street’s demarcation, its length reduced to about 625 meters. Also residents differentiate the street as first Johnson and second Johnson sake of the cut.

Johnson Street is a multipurpose  and commercial street which holds basic human social amenities such as schools, hotel and accommodation, churches, residential buildings, baby day care, series of shops, pharmacy shops, provision stores, tailoring services,  restaurants, and many more. Apparently, one can live on Johnson Street for over a year without the need to go out.

With 23 buildings and over 40 shops, expensive rents from majorly story buildings on the Street, Johnson Street was listed as one of the best streets in Kirikiri town. However, poor drainage system, bad road, dirty environment and  infiltration and are its major setbacks.

The street of Johnson is awful. The gutters suffer from aged-long obstruction. The street wasn’t made for heavy duty trucks but these days sharp guys have turned the street into a parking lot for trucks after dubiously passing them through one-way from the link bridge.

A former resident described Johnson Street as the best area in town to stay but according to the same resident , it may have lost its glory. Something needs to do be about the road and gutter.

Although, the above listed phenomenon’s are the greatest problems of Kirikiri town. The town lacks proper gutter and drainage system, bad roads and dirty environment has become a norm.

Having a new Local Government Chairman and Councilor, resident s hope that the woes of Kirikiri town will be taken care of.
